eye problems
I am a little worried about Butterball. I woke up this morning to find out that his eyes have a lot of discharge. I cleaned them and it just keeps coming back. It’s a yellowish, green color. I am not sure if it’s caused my allergies or dust (he likes to run around in the garden). I am going to wait a couple days to see if it goes away. I checked his eye and it doesn’t appear to be red, so I am hoping that it’s just allergies that are making his eyes like this. Any ideas of what it could be? I’ll post pictures soon when his eyes get bad again. I cleaned them before I decided to blog.

If it doesn't clear up in a day or so, I'd take him to the vet. Green mucus is normally caused by an infection. Gibson once had green discharge coming from his eyes, and it turned out that he had kennel cough or some other type of respiratory infection :( Is he sneezing or coughing??
i dont think he's been coughing or sneezing. im hoping it clears up because i dont really have the money to take him to a vet. :(
how much was your vet visit?
Koda has had discharge before from his eyes (not sure of the color, more darker green/gray color) the first time it was after the gardener at our rental house had spread some fertilizer so we thought it might have affected his eyes. they were also really watery. Right when I decided to take him to the vet, he cleared up. Same thing has happened off and on since then, even though we are in a different house now. I think Koda's are allergies. I would wait a bit and if Butterball is acting okay, eating, sleeping okay, I'd see if it cleared up on its own (I wouldn't wait more than a week to 10 days though). Our typical vet visits are real expensive because they always talk you into this or that service, but when we have had to go to the emergency vet after hours, it has been $65 plus whatever medicine they prescribe
betty
i'll definitly wait...im thinking its allergies or he hurt his eye when he was fighting with the other dog.
I recently took Jasper to the vet for his crusty, goopy eyes. All he had was some allergies. The vet gave him some eye drops to take daily & extra for any other time it happens. It must have been the pollen, because his eyes haven't been crusty since then. I think my visit was about $120 which included the medicine. In your case, I would only be worried because of the color. Jaspers discharge was always clear. Like Kelly said, it might be an infection. Take it easy with him for a couple of days & see if it just goes away. And watch for any other symptoms. Hope it clears up soon :)
Thanks for stopping by my blog! Your dog is a cutie :) Well to address your problem...as a future eye doctor, I know that at least in humans that yellow-green discharge is more likely a bacterial infection for which the vet will likely give him an antibiotic ointment. Allergies usually cause clear watery discharge. My Momo had a similar recurrent discharge and we had to put him on an antibiotic. Hope that helps!
